Ostara
As Within, So Without
Now the Wheel of the Year turns toward the eastern most point. Greeted by the rising sun, this seasonal quarter encourages your soul to soar, and your body to hum with its inspiration. You alight on the feathers of intention, flying into the light that breaks on the shores of the morning Equinox.
Awaken!
Feel the wind on your face as you take that first breath of Spring. Breathe in and out, gradually expanding your lungs. Cry out loud as you re-enter your life; now is another beginning and it’s time to resurrect your soul’s purpose.
The equinox at Spring holds the balance point between day and night—calling forth your deepest inner world reflections to support your adventure back into the bright and expressive outer world. Keep breathing, moving out Winter’s cobwebs to create space for these moments as you begin to balance your outsides with your insides.
Integrate.
Inspired by renewal and rebirth, the winds of the season light-up sensation and passion, ideas and action—readying your body for the memory door to open. Your soul forces imbue your experiences in the days to come as they elongate slowly and surely while the sun rises higher each day.
Take that first breath to root your soul in your body once again, receiving the gifts of life.
Celebrate!
Tips for the Season
Conscious Breath: Cleansing Spring Breaths
Springtime = Cleansing
A very simple method of cleansing is to breathe consciously. You can learn much by tuning into your breathing patterns.
You can get information on your mental and emotional states and then consciously adjust them as you choose.
Before you get out of bed in the morning, bring your awareness to your breathing.
Breathe deeply into your nose followed by an effortless deep exhale out of your mouth, letting the breath wake up the cells of your body with life force.
After a few of those breaths, say silently to yourself “Let” on a deep in-breath through the nose, and a silent “Go” on a long out-breath through the mouth.
Continue until you feel complete.
Simple; easy!
Feng Shui for your Insides: Your Front Door
Refresh the threshold of your Front Door! The entrance to your home is the mouth of Chi.
Take note: this is where all of your abundance must pass through to get into your household.
In the spirit of the inspiring potential for new beginnings at springtime, wipe away all the winter energy accumulation by making a mixture of vinegar and water: 1/4 cup white vinegar and 3/4 cup water. Increase quantity as needed depending upon the area.
Clean your threshold and door with this blend.
Follow up with a new door mat, grounding your intention for your home this Spring!
Herbal Healing: Stinging Nettle
Nettle is a great cleansing and strengthening herb for the very special type of growth that happens during Springtime. It is highly nutritious and purifies the blood, increasing energy after a winter rest.
This wild plant is often found growing near streams or rivers, and readily available fresh young leaves can be lightly steamed, sautéed, made into a soup, or brewed into a tea—it’s important to heat-up the nettle to get the ‘sting’ out!
The “Nettle Cookbook: Recipes for Foragers and Foodies,” by Vivian Tuffney is a great resource for making everything nettle. Be sure to use the herbal expertise of someone who knows when preparing any remedy or food.
And if Spring is ‘allergy season’ in your area, nettle’s antihistamine properties may alleviate your symptoms. You can create a tincture from the fresh leaves, or purchase one already made.
Energetically, nettle helps to create flow and movement for personal growth. Whether this is in your body, your psyche, or creative projects you are nurturing, nettle can be a nourishing ally for you this Spring!
Pathworking Tools: Four Winds—The Wind that Blows
Face eastward at dawn, feeling the cleansing gales of Spring flowing through your body. Listen for the sword’s prosaic song, pinging the clear tone of truth. Fresh air breezes-through to cleanse-away the Winter, lifting its dusty sleep while the seeds of life blow-in from the season now past. Receive the incredible abundance of all four directions, as they merge, meeting inside your body. Stand in the center of the crossroads—facing east.
Connect to the Earth, noticing the divine energy flowing through your body—from the center of the Earth into your lower body through the soles of your feet. Connect to the heavens, noticing the divine energies flowing through your body—from the center of the Galaxy above, into your crown, down your spine and through all your chakras.
Breathe in. Feel the energies of heaven and earth meeting in your heart. Breathe out, feeling them moving through your whole body.
Breathe in again! Now this brilliant blend emerges, flowing out through your heart, into your aura as you exhale. Breathe into your heart from above and below one more time, exhaling and giving it to the world outside. Know that your body is a conduit—a sacred vessel to engage with the abundance of all things, inner and outer.
Ground and center.
